I can't tell you how much I LOVED doing this incredible portrait shoot at the lush Rockefeller Greenhouse off MLK Drive in Cleveland. Emma, who is off to college next year, was nothing but stunning and poised as she moved through the gardens with ease. She truly inspired these images with who she is–sweetness with a kick of edginess she brought out in the images at the Westside Market. ...And who doesn't deserve a pastry from The Westside Market after all that charm + sass?
My love of farms and farmers markets led me to ask good friends Zach + Bethany if I could "shadow" them at the market they visit every Saturday morning. They frequent the Shaker Square Farmers Market, which in my opinion is the best outdoor market in the Cleveland area.
Zach + Beth are the real thing—all about real food and traditional food preparation methods. They source their fresh food from vendors they are on a first name basis is with. I'm simply inspired by them. Some of their simple tips from the shoot: 1// use the more easily digested milk from jersey cows to made homemade yogurt (and don't be afraid to try—I use this recipe). 2// keep fresh parsley and cilantro in a bit of water in a jar in the fridge to last weeks longer (this works so well!). 3// organize your fridge with more perishable items like lettuce towards the front to ensure timely use of fresh ingredients. I'm always so flattered and surprised when old friends or clients track me down to do photos for them because they feel most comfortable with me. Head shot portraits, especially, can be intimidating if you're not into the camera being on you (definitely how I feel being constantly behind the camera). This was the case with my old coworker, Rachel, who contacted me to do portraits for her career shift into realty. With social media being pertinent for marketing, it is important to have a photo that is authentic and intentional to create a professional first impression. Rachel was nervous about the shoot, as she had not had professional photos taken since her wedding years before. I love that I can create sessions like this on-location in my clients' homes, the place we all feel most comfortable in our own skin. The babysitter was running late so, Leni, who I took photos of two years ago when she was born, participated in the shoot. She was the perfect little participant to put Rachel at ease and keep the shoot feeling carefree and fun. |
