We spent our Thanksgiving eating pumpkin pies and turkeys back in Ohio with our families. Funnily enough, we juxtaposed our warm and cozy holiday with a big family outing to the cold, unheated Mansfield Penetentiary (where the Shawshank Redemption was filmed). I was surprised to find it in such a naturally decaying state with little bits of movie memorablia thrown in. While my relatives listened to an audio tour as we walked through, my camera and I were instead raptured with the facinating visual beauty of years of wallpaper and weathering. Matched with the dingy light filtering in the oversized windows, all I could think was that this was the place to take beautiful portraits.
